BYOD Concept ???..from college to corporate

Do you heard of BYOD policy/concept ? Actually we all have tried the minimized version of this concept atleast a day in a week . BYOD doesn't give you an idea but I'am sure it's full form will give a some sort of idea "Bring Your Own Device".

BYOD policy is being adopted by large number of companies when there are lots of security risks lying on it. Bring Your Own Device is a businees policy of employees allowing them to bring their own devices into company and do company jobs though it. It has lots of Pros as well as Cons. In this growing tablet and smartphone industry, more workers are exploiting the potential of BYOD which can be named as BYOT ( Bring Your Own Technology) or BYOB(Bring your own Behaviour). BYOT and BYOB widens the former concept by allowing the employees to bring the foreign apps into company network.

All of us have been used our smartphones and tablets to exploit the availability of college/hostel WiFi facility. Even we have downloaded so many apps, games, movies etc using college network and devices. So itz very clear that we have used a small face of BYOD concept unknowingly and illegally.

This concept also had its roots on early days, but only difference is that when it's potential and security risks came into relevance of company survival, it all turned out to be a policy which is named as BYOD. So company's not allowing this policy don't allow employees to bring their own devices into company and using the company network and resources through it. Lets take a scenario and discuss about the security risk behind this luxury. Suppose a user takes his tablet into his/her company and deals with company's controversial/confidential information. After that the user is using his tablet for hsi personal use on the way to his home. So if a hacker can espionage into his tablet then the company's confidential information is on unauthorized hands. Now another picture is that, if the employee losses his device then also the same threat.

The plus point is that it's obvious that an employee gives a best concern to his/her device and treats safely. Recent survey found out that there is a peek in the productivity of those employees using their own device/apps in their own way to accomplish company tasks.

From 2010 with larger companies , IBM also adopted BYOD concept but recently they found out the presence so many stray apps on those devices which even company can't control. They suspect that their information are looted through these apps. So recently they have declared guidelines of banned and unbanned apps. Dropbox file transfer app is also in the banned list which the company fears the chances of leaking details. Survey lead to the discovery that most of the employees dunno about the seriousness of using top class apps in company devices or their devices which is used in company network.
